We were told that we needed to order a minimum of two portions of Banana Fosters and we said yes. He could have said that we needed to order one each and we would have still obliged. We asked if we had time to taste something else and the waiter smiled. How about an omelette with mushrooms or a poached lobster, he asked. Both, we said. He smiled.
So before our fosters came along, we got a taste of what Brennan serves. Clearly this place is more than just Banana Fosters. The lobster was fabulous. With a burnt butter garlic toast on top, the dish was fabulous. The omelette was just as good. Not like the overcooked omelettes, this was quite yellow, with the mushrooms balancing out the eggy overdose.
And then a tray arrived. We didn't know that banana fosters was made live, so while we were quite sad that we couldn't have more of their main courses, the fosters made up for it. Banana with butter, cinnamon and flambé with rum, the dish is served with ice cream and is everything that it is hyped to be. Where better than the place it was created!!!
If I ever back to New Orleans, I'm going to have a leisurely breakfast here! One day!
