No, V 2.0 is not part of the name, but the restaurant that probably started the first 45 minutes or free concept in Chennai, has gotten a makeover. Unapologetically Indianised pizzas, PizzaDeli's new avatar has a 16 cover dine in space, right behind Loyola College. And with pizzas like quarter back, where you can choose 4 different quarters for one pizza, they've got their college target right.
With no need to order more than 1 pizza to try out different flavours, 2 of us took a quarter back with Roast Tenderloin, Minced Tenderloin, Minced Lamb and a BBQ & Chicken Tikka. Yeah unapologetically meaty. The minced lamb was my winner all the way, though it didn't tick all the boxes for my lamb loving friend. Nice, he said, but the Mallu Style Tenderloin roast was his favourite. With nice big meaty chunks, I think I understand why he likes it, but I'm not changing my opinion. So, while we shared one slice to taste, we both got our own slices for the flavours we liked.
While I've been ordering their club sandwiches for a really long time, we saw their tenderloin sandwich on the menu and decided to try it. This time though, it didn't interest both of us. Their meaty chicken ham sandwiches are a winner any day. Big, meaty, juicy. And no veggies!
While predominantly a delivery joint, PizzaDeli's new dine in space with loads of books has a feel good setting and with 12 inch pizzas starting at about Rs. 500, which is about 75 bucks a slice, I hope this truly Chennai's pizza place has a long second innings.
PizzaDeli is in Mahalingapuram, along the road that has the back gate of Loyola College.
